Stabbing in Beaver Bay

A 21-year-old Beaver Bay man, Samuel Osborne Stenberg, is facing multiple felony charges—including attempted second-degree murder—after allegedly stabbing his unarmed father inside their home on October 2, 2026.

According to Lake County court documents, law enforcement responded to a home on Evelyn Street just after 12:30 p.m. following a 911 call from a woman reporting that her son was attacking her husband. Upon entering the residence, deputies discovered the father, identified as J.P.S., heavily bleeding on a bedroom floor. The victim stated that he had been stabbed multiple times and that his son had fled.

A MN State trooper apprehended Stenberg a short distance away. He had blood on his face and hands, a blood-stained steak knife in his possession, and a pair of scissors concealed up his sleeve. According to the complaint, Stenberg allegedly admitted to the stabbing, telling authorities, “I just killed my dad.”

The complaint states the victim managed to survive the assault by crawling underneath a bed until Stenberg left the premises.

The father suffered five stab wounds to his back, a cut earlobe, and a two-inch laceration on his head. He was airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth; an official update on his medical status has not been released at this time.

Stenberg is currently being held with bail set at $1 million. He is charged with three counts, carrying the following maximum penalties:

• Attempted Second-Degree Murder: Up to 20 years in prison.

• Second-Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon: Up to 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.

• Misdemeanor Domestic Assault.
