Duane Nelson, 79, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, October 2, 2025 after a long battle with COPD.
Duane was born October 17, 1945 to Leslie and Elsie (Johnson) in Two Harbors, Minnesota. He grew up in Two Harbors where he attended Two Harbors High School and graduated in 1963. After high school he got a job at Reserve/North Shore Mining. He worked there for over 40 years until he retired in 2007.

Duane spent his free time playing golf until his COPD became too much. He also loved to watch golf on TV as well as all other sports! He also had fun playing a scratch ticket now and then, selecting his fantasy football picks each week; and in recent months, hanging out with his friend John Lundgren retelling tales of the glory days.
Duane was an animal lover who found joy in feeding the birds and watching them on his deck. He loved all of his pets and enjoyed the time he got to spend with them.
But what Duane cherished most was the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Almost every Sunday was spent watching football with his sons and grandkids, enjoying a meal and making memories.
Over the last 18 months Duane’s health had deteriorated and he was homebound. He was only able to stay at home because of the love and care from his wife Pam, allowing his family valuable time with him. He will be greatly missed.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jon and Charlie.
He is survived by his wife Pam; sons Bryan (Courtney) Nelson, Derek (Cara) Nelson, Aaron Nelson, stepdaughter Kristie (Trent) Finn; and his grandchildren Mikayah (Dylon) Brand, Thomas, Paisley, Lucy, Elsie & Earl Nelson; and Alexa & Kaitlyn Finn. As well as his beloved cat Callie.
Per his wishes no services will be held. To share a memory or condolences please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Lake County Humane Society.
