Grand Marais, MN, August 8, 2025 – The Grand Marais Public Library is thrilled to host Cook County novelist Brian Malloy who will read the opening of his work-in-progress, entitled Into the Boundary Waters Wednesday, August 20, from 7-8 PM.
While a work of fiction, Into the Boundary Waters is inspired by an actual 2007 incident, in which dozens of campers were terrorized by six drunken men from Ely, who used pistols and an AK-47 to fire off 60 rounds while s p e e d i n g by in motorboats. The gunmen then went ashore and threatened campers with rape and murder, according to the 24-page criminal complaint.
This event is free and open to the public. No tickets required. Please note: This program is not appropriate for children because of language and violence.
A Minnesota Book Award-winner and an ALA Alex Award-winner, Brian has published four novels: The Year of Ice, Brendan Wolf, After Francesco, and young adult novel Twelve Long Months.
