Farmers Meet Up

There will be a North Shore Farmers Meetup hosted by the Cook County Extension on Friday, February 17th from 10 am – 2 pm at the Cook County Community Center in Grand Marais, located at 317 W 5th Street.

for local farmers and agricultural producers who sell their farm products to gather and learn from one another. Farms at any stage of development are welcome, as well as folks that are interested in starting a farm in the region. The bulk of the time will be spent in discussions with each other on topics of interest to the group. Farmers are eager and curious to learn from one another in this region and explore trials and triumphs of producing food here in Northeastern Minnesota.

Attendance to the event is free with the option to order a catered lunch for $15. If you would like to have your lunch provided, please pre-register for the event by February 13th. Otherwise, you can register up until the day of the event if you plan to bring your own lunch. “This is a chance for local farmers to gather and discuss topics of interest to them such as seed sources, varieties, integrating different types of agriculture into an operation, market opportunities, farm to school, climate change’s impact on agriculture in our region, production techniques, and more,” comments Sarah Waddle, Cook County Extension Educator and Community Director. “This will be a facilitated open space meeting, so the discussion topics will be set by the participants on the day of the event.”

Farmers will also have an opportunity to learn about the resources available to them through the U of MN Extension, both locally and statewide, as well as network with each other. Before the Pandemic there had been similar meet-ups of Farmer to Farmer discussions and networking, so this is a great time to gather again and share all you have learned over the last couple of years with other local producers.

To learn more and to register please visit: z.umn.edu/NE-farmer-meetup. Registration is accepted up until the day of the event and walk-ins are welcome. If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Waddle at 218-387-3015 or by email at swaddle@umn.edu. Pass this information along to anyone you know who may be interested in attending. Knowledge is power and we always have so much to learn from one another.
