Most kids that have a lemonade stand can’t wait to spend their hard earned money on themselves. Maybe on a new bike or video game. But Dawson Oman, age 11, is no ordinary kid. An avid outdoorsman, Dawson likes hunting, fishing and camping. So, when the Brimson fire swept through the area where he does all of the things he loves so much, he was determined to make a difference.
With the help of his parents, David Oman Jr. and Amber Oman of Duluth, he set up shop on East Superior Street, selling refreshing lemonade that he beautifully garnished with a piece of fruit. Waving to passersby and carrying his lemonade sign, Dawson set out to make money to donate to the Brimson wildfire fund. David said that Dawson has a big heart and never hesitates to help others in need.
Dawson’s efforts enabled him to donate $55 to Hugo’s Bar in support of the Brimson wildfire fund. When asked why he wanted to donate the proceeds to the fund, Dawson said, “Because people lost their houses, cars and pets, and it’s nice to help.”
