The Two Harbors Overeaters Anonymous group and the Northern Serenity Intergroup are sponsoring an event to provide information about OA, Tuesday July 29 at 6:30 in the conference room of Aspirus Lake View Hospital in Two Harbors.
Founded in 1960 and patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous, OA is a 12-step program for anyone who wants to stop any form of compulsive eating. Members of OA identify the foods and eating patterns that have become addictive and use the support of the group to eliminate them, and apply the twelve steps to live without emotional dependence on extra eating. There are members with a history of binge eating, bulimia, obesity, and other forms of compulsive eating. Some are very overweight while others see the effects of compulsive eating in other ways. Some have had bariatric surgery and find they need support to keep from returning to excess eating, and some have recovered from other addictions and found themselves turning to food as a substitute. Members are encouraged to work with a nutritionist or other medical professional to design their plan of eating.
The “Introducing Overeaters Anonymous” event will include basic information, members telling some of their stories, and a chance to ask questions. The event is open to anyone interested in information for themselves or for another person, or for professionals who would like to know about Overeaters Anonymous as an option for referrals. For additional information, call or text Northern Serenity Intergroup at 218- 461-1792.
