Evangalista Torricelli invented the barometer in 1643. He wasn’t really looking for a way to advance the science of meteorology. He had been hired by Czech silver mine owners to figure out why it was so hard to pump water out of the tunnels. It just so happened that changes in air pressure meant changes in weather. Low pressure means precip and high pressure means dry.
This December, we may have more high pressure than low pressure. December 2025 is slated to feature a couple of big cold snaps. The temperature could average out four degrees colder than normal. Unfortunately for snow fans, our recently reappeared drought will continue. Snow totals may be five inches short of normal.
December 1 to 10 should be cold with only light snow showers. The 11th to 19th will be even colder with only flurries falling. Christmas week may turn toward the mild with a warm spell expected from the 20th to 25th. The 26th to 31st will turn dry and cold.
