To answer the “cleverly” crafted headline of this article with words that the Two Harbors Agates Swim Team Coach, Heather Mayfield, posted on the team’s Facebook page, “We’ve been working hard and have had a lot of meets.” Looking into the 2023 Girls 7A True Team Section Meet is proof of how hard these young swimmers have worked and how far they have come throughout the season.
“We swam with a lot of heart,” Coach Mayfield posted. “Each girl on the team walked away with at least one best time and that’s rather impressive for this time of year. So proud of each of you!”
Bella Imholte, a sophomore who is new to Two Harbors High School, broke the meet record in the 100-meter backstroke during the October 14th meet. Bella has had an impressive season. She broke the Two Harbors High School record earlier in the year. The 24-year record was previously held by Britta Veitenheimer. What made this extra special was Britta made the record when she swam with Bella’s mom, April, on the 1999 team. April and Britta are friends to this day and Britta was happy to hear Bella got the new record.
Bella has been named All-Conference in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. In addition, she is Conference Champion from when she set a new pool record at Rock Ridge School on October 3rd.
Another member of the team has also received All-Conference for achieving 2nd place in the 100-meter breaststroke. Ava Oswald-Swenson, a junior, was named All-Conference in back in 2021. This year is her first time being named All-Conference in an individual event.
The team that Coach Mayfield calls “small but mighty,” took 4th place overall in the Iron Range Conference, which includes 6 teams. “A very impressive finish for us!” Coach Mayfield wrote in.
By the time this article is published, the Agates Swim Team will have had another swim event at Rock Ridge High School. I can’t wait to hear about how it goes!
