The North Shore Storm Nordic ski team recently celebrated Gunny Skadberg’s first-place finish at the Prince Haakon 15K race in Hayward, Wisconsin—a race closely tied to the renowned American Birkebeiner.
According to Birkie.com, the Prince Haakon race is “named after the baby prince who started it all! Skiers race 15km through the forest on the Birkie Trail, glide across frozen Lake Hayward, and ski over the infamous American Birkebeiner International Bridge towards the finish line on Hayward’s snow-covered Main Street.”
Skadberg’s season has been nothing short of remarkable. For the first time in eight years, Two Harbors sent an individual skier to the state meet for Nordic skiing. Competing in the highly competitive Section 7, this achievement is a significant milestone. Skadberg was one of just three freshmen to qualify for state this season.
At the state meet, held at Giant’s Ridge on February 13, Skadberg finished 62nd out of 112 skiers, posting a combined pursuit time of 33:15.2.
Congratulations to Gunny on an outstanding season!
