To Whom it May Concern,
It is very good news for all those in the Two Harbors area that action is finally being taken to deal with the former John A. Johnson School property. The county’s acquisition of this blighted and increasingly hazardous property is a double win for our community—this dangerous eyesore will finally be demolished, and sorely needed housing will be developed on the property.
The Lake County Board of Commissioners is to be commended for taking decisive action to deal with this long-standing problem area. But also worthy of our appreciation are those in the Biden Administration and the primarily Democratic members Congress who supported the federal funding programs which made this important project possible.
The funding for this vital local effort came from the American Rescue Plan Act and additional federal funds received from LATFC, the Local Aid and Tribal Consistency Fund. Without these important financial infusions, the dollars necessary to resolve this decades-old community dilemma would not be available.
