Ken was born September 12, 1951 in Chicago, to Glenn Fischer and Bar bara Marley, but spent most of his childhood in Mari on, Indiana. He told countless stories of adventures growing up there. He enjoyed all sports and was a gifted athlete. He was a life guard at the local YMCA, taught swimming lessons, and loved his motorcycle. After graduating from High School, he attended Wheaton College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Not long after graduation he moved to Cedar Rapids, IA to be closer to his father. There, he worked at Square D for 17 years, met his wife, Annette, beginning a 37-year love story filled with laughter, joy and precious memories.
Ken and Annette moved to Northern Minesota in 1995 with their three children. Initially they lived in a cabin (located in the Superior National Forest) and had a small hobby farm while Ken worked at Bluefin Bay Resort. They were blessed with 4 more children during this time. In 2000 Ken and Annette started Wilderness Family Naturals. They were the 1st to import virgin coco nut oil from the Philippines, packaging and selling it across the country. This was done by relying on satellite for internet and a generator and solar for electric. In 2003, due to the business expanding rapidly, the family moved to Beaver Bay, and later Silver Bay. While in Silver Bay they added two more children to their fold, adopted from Haiti. In 2015 they sold the business and retired to a hobby farm in Southern Missouri where they raised grass-fed beef, sheep, and goats.
Ken cherished others, spreading love and humor to many. More than anything Ken loved God, with his whole heart. He was known for his kindness, humility, integrity, and genuine love for others which came from a deep relationship with his Creator. He valued people spending many hours reading his Bible and praying for others. He regularly attended church wherever he lived. Ken was well known and deeply loved in every congregation, especially by the church family at Great Lakes Church in Duluth, which held a special place in his heart.
Ken looked for ways to spend time with his children and friends. He was always up for basketball or a game of Rook, Catan, and any game or sport that brought people together. He cherished hiking with his children and spending time outdoors. Those who knew Ken will remember him as a humorous, tender, loving man whose faith guided everything he did. His laughter, warmth, and devotion to family and God will be forever missed and never forgotten.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Annette Fischer; nine children: Logan (Joleen) Fischer, Chasya (Randy) Goutermont, Baruch (Angel) Fischer, Eben Fischer, Michael Fischer, Caleb Fischer, Enoch (Tia) Fischer, Amaris Fischer, Elie (Chase) Hoe fling; his fifteen grandchildren: Tait, Emsley, Brielle, Hazel, Keenan, Tenley, Mercia, Kerusso, Boaz, Jeanie, Amari, MattiLu, Kinsley, Zaria, and Reuel.
