Like a lot of deer hunters, I like to make a mid-summer trip to the shack to make sure the mice haven’t somehow set fire to the place. They get into everything! The trail to the deer shack this past week is just like the canals of Venice. We are now about three inches over for normal rain for the first half of the year. The second half may be a little different.
The National Weather Service pronounced El Nino officially dead. Evidence of that is the almost persistent rain we’ve been getting as the jet stream shifts position. La Nina will take over in the late stages of summer to keep us fairly wet but cooler. That leaves July to be an in between month.
The July forecast indicates the rain may take a tiny break. Instead of huge downpours, nature will be a little more stingy and we’ll “only” get what’s normal for the month. The temperature, though, will go overboard a bit. We may average three degrees warmer than normal.
July 1 to 6 should sunny, stormy and hot. July 7-11 will be sunny but cool. July 12 to 17 will be warm and stormy. The 18th to 29th could go cool and showery. The 21st to 31st may be dry and hot.
The heat, of course, could provide the energy needed to evaporate some of our standing water. Best wishes to those who are recovering from the floods of June!
