The Two Harbors Agates Volleyball team is really acing their season so far. Last weekend the girls went undefeated in the Marshall Hilltopper tournament, besting Cook County, Silver Bay, Marshall, and Fon du Lac Ojibwe School. After 6 hours on the court, the Agates were named champions and took home 1st place.
According to Coach Carley Challender, “It’s a great day to be an Agate! Our girls worked incredibly hard this weekend and proved to the crowd and themselves that they deserve to be there. We’ve worked on closing this win for the last few years, coming up short in 2nd place. It was a sweet, sweet moment to finally be named champions. Couldn’t be more proud of our team and the way they handle and carry themselves.”
It was a great day to be an Agate on Monday, Sept 9th, as well. Two Harbors went up against Mesabi-East on the Giant’s home court.
The first set was a close one, Mesabi-East winning by a small margin. After that, to quote the Giants’ announcers, “It’s all been the Agates since.”
They dominated the second set, winning 25-11. The 3rd set ended in a tighter score of 25-19.
In the 4th, the Agates were ahead 23-14 when Mesabi-East took a time out. The coach must’ve given the Giants some motivation to not go down without a fight. They did not give up easy and brought the score to 25-19 before the end of the game.
The announcers of the match, which can be viewed on YouTube, had some great things to say about the Agates. They mentioned how tough they play throughout each set and that they did a really nice job. For Agate fans, that is no surprise to us!
Congrats on the big wins, Two Harbors Volleyball Team! Keep up the good work!
