Playoff Runs End as Cook County and Two Harbors Conclude Basketball Seasons

The Two Harbors Agates and the Cook County Vikings boys basketball teams experienced their share of ups and downs this season, persevering through injuries and illness while showing steady improvement. As their seasons wrapped up with the arrival of March, both teams had plenty to be proud of.

Cook County Player Sets Scoring Record Amid Playoff Battle

The Vikings took on Cromwell-Wright on March 5th in the Class 1A, Section 7 second-round matchup. As the 12th seed, Cook County faced a tough challenge against the fifth-seeded Cardinals, ultimately falling 59-71.

Despite the loss, the night was historic for the Vikings. Senior Denali Blackwell set a new school record for career points, finishing with an impressive 1,358 total. This milestone cements Blackwell’s legacy in Cook County basketball history.

Cromwell-Wright proved to be a challenging opponent throughout the season. The Vikings fell 67-42 to the Cardinals on December 13 but showed improvement in their February 7 rematch, narrowing the gap in a 67-62 loss. Cook County finished the season with a 12-14 record, according to MN Basketball Hub.

Cromwell-Wright advanced in the postseason, defeating Littlefork-Big Falls 90-67 in the Class 1A, Section 7 quarterfinal to secure a spot in the sectional semifinal.

Two Harbors Battles Hard in Playoff Opener

In the Class 2A, Section 7 game, the Two Harbors Agates wrapped up their season with an 11-16 record. Their final game concluded with a tough 64-59 loss to Moose Lake-Willow River on March 4th in the first round of play-offs. The Agates demonstrated steady improvement throughout the season. They had fallen 71-42 to the Rebels on December 13th, but by their February 14th matchup, they had significantly closed the gap in a 58-55 loss before their final five-point playoff defeat. Moose Lake-Willow River’s postseason run was short-lived, as they fell to the Pierz Pioneers 79-52 in the quarterfinal round. Congratulations to both the Cook County Vikings and Two Harbors Agates for the great season!
