The air is crisping up,
Fall waits just around the bend
Summer slipped away too fast,
And football’s back again
After three years with no
Independent team for varsity,
The Silver Bay Mariners
Traveled out to Ogilvie
They saw some success
And fought a strong fight,
But ultimately—
Ogilvie won that night
Their coach, in his thirtieth season,
Knows it takes a game to grow
Each snap a chart, each play a map,
Each trial helps them show
Mariner fans came out in force,
And cheerleaders raised the sound
This season will be fun to watch
As growth and grit abound
Meanwhile, their cousins down in Two Harbors
Took on North Branch at home
They led the way through two full quarters,
The first half claimed as their own
But football’s tide can turn so fast
The second half grew tough
Mistakes were seized, momentum swung,
And effort wasn’t enough
Their coach expressed his pride
At how hard the Agates fight
The crowd cheered long into the game
On Father and Parents’ Night
Up the shore, Cook County’s opener
Told a different story
Against the Carlton-Wrenshall Raptors,
The Vikings found their glory
They scored at will, they stormed ahead,
And victories piled high
Now they’ll meet the Mariners in Silver Bay,
With a shorter and welcome drive
The season is just beginning,
And one thing holds true:
No matter how much you win or lose,
Our towns all cheer for you
Don’t worry—I won’t rhyme every report,
Or make a habit of this art
But the season’s first games felt special enough
To deserve a poetic start
Best of luck to the Vikings, Agates, and Mariner football teams this season!
