In a spirited match on Tuesday, November 21st, the North Shore Storm Girls Varsity Hockey Team faced a formidable opponent in the Hibbing/Chisholm Bluejackets at the Hibbing Memorial Arena. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the Storm ultimately succumbed to the Bluejackets with a final score of 5-2.
It is the third loss in a row for the team, who fell to the Duluth Northern Stars in a close 3-2 game on November 14th and then lost 5-0 to Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on the 17th.
The Bluejackets took an early lead, securing the first goal of the game. However, the Storm quickly responded. Freshman forward #10 Hayden Bright swiftly tied the score, thanks to the collaborative efforts of fellow freshmen #9 Reese Costley and #4 Sierra Geatz.
As the first period progressed, the Bluejackets managed to sneak in another goal, gaining a narrow lead before heading into the intermission. The seesaw battle continued into the second period, where senior #11 Kinsey Komarek leveled the playing field once again. Her goal, executed on a powerplay, was made possible by the skilled assist from freshman #8 Berkley Hoff.
However, the tenacious Bluejackets were determined to maintain their edge. Shortly after Komarek’s equalizer, Hibbing/Chisholm found the back of the net once more, concluding the second period with a score of 3-2 in their favor.
As the teams entered the critical final period, the Bluejackets intensified their offensive efforts. Despite the Storm’s defense putting up a strong fight, Hibbing/Chisholm managed to score twice more, including a goal on an empty net. The final buzzer signaled a 5-2 victory for the Bluejackets.
While the outcome may not have been in their favor, the Storm’s performance showcased the team’s determination and unity. As they regroup and prepare for future challenges, the North Shore Storm Girls Varsity Hockey Team remains a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of high school hockey.
