Mites Remain Mite-Y Busy

Despite the heavy snowfall over last weekend, area Mite hockey players were undeterred, braving the elements to take part in the Woodland Mite Outdoor Jamboree.

The Two Harbors Mite 1 Maroon and Gray teams, as well as the Mite 2 Maroon and Gray teams, each played three games over the weekend. They powered through the storm, showing their dedication and enthusiasm for the game while having a blast in the snow.

Keira Wilson, Mite team manager, shared her pride: “The kids skated hard and braved the snow, wind, and cold!”

When the snowflakes slowed the pucks down, the kids got creative, switching to street hockey balls to keep the game going. The fun escalated even more with the UMD Bulldogs mascot, Champ, who joined the action, skating around the rink with the players throughout the weekend.

After their last game on Saturday the Mite 2 Maroon team couldn’t resist making snow angels on the rink. “They certainly made some amazing hockey memories this weekend!” Wilson reported.

Earlier in January, the Two Harbors and Silver Bay Mites also participated in the Great Lake Skate Jamboree, and all the teams got a chance to skate with Champ at the Amsoil Arena during the Little Chippers events in December. It’s clear that area Mites, their coaches, families, and fans are always on the go, making hockey memories all season.
