Basketball Brief: Area Teams Face Early Challenges

The Two Harbors boys basketball team faced a tough game on December 5th, falling short against Duluth Marshall with a final score of 80-61. They have suffered a series of injuries that has added an additional challenge against the team. Despite the loss, they’re determined to bounce back in upcoming games, with matchups against Mesabi East on December 10th (this game will be played after this newspaper’s deadline), and tough battles ahead against Deer River and Moose Lake-Willow River.

For the Vikings of Cook County, their season began with a narrow defeat at the hands of South Ridge, losing 62-69 in their opener at Cook County High School. However, they quickly regrouped, securing a victory against Floodwood with a score of 72-26. The Vikings now turn their focus to games against Carlton/Wrenshall and Cromwell-Wright at home, ready to build momentum and find their rhythm on the court.

The Lady Agates faced a tough setback when they couldn’t recover from recent losses, falling to Moose Lake/Willow River with a score of 40-52 on the Rebels’ home court. As they prepare to hit the road for a series of away games, including matchups against South Ridge, North Woods, and Cherry High School, the team remains focused on turning their season around and demonstrating their true potential.

Over in Silver Bay, the girls’ team struggled against South Ridge on December 5th and is eager to regain their footing in upcoming games. They hope to turn their season around with contests against Ely, Floodwood, and Duluth Denfeld, with the latter two games taking place on their home court.

In the meantime, the Cook County Vikings girls’ team is also facing their share of challenges early in the season. Their next two games are at home, giving them a valuable opportunity to build confidence and edge out victories against Carlton/ Wrenshall and Cromwell-Wright. The Vikings are determined to find their stride and turn the season around, demonstrating their resilience and skill as they aim to climb the standings.
