October 2 was a milestone night for the Two Harbors Agates volleyball team and especially for sophomore libero Alicia Hurd. In a thrilling 3-1 victory over South Ridge, Hurd recorded her 1,000th career dig, a testament to years of fearless play and relentless effort.
“Every bruise, every floor burn, and every time you dove into the bench, wall, or bleacher brought you to this point,” said Head Coach Ashley Paulson. “Congratulations, kiddo!”
The win was historic for the Agates. South Ridge entered the match with a 17-2 record, and Two Harbors hadn’t beaten them since 2016. But the Agates demonstrated focus and a mindset they’ve been building all season.
“I am so proud of how our girls showed up tonight,” Paulson posted on the team’s Facebook page. “We’ve had a lot of conversations about having a positive mindset, and it really showed in this match. Thank you, ladies, for working so hard through the mental aspect of the game because it played a huge role in your physical performance.”
Hurd, Class of 2027, is known not only for her defensive prowess but also for her leadership off the court. She’s active in Student Council, National Honor Society, and was selected for the Scott Anderson Leadership Forum, where she honed skills in teamwork and communication.
Her 1,000 digs are more than a stat. They’re a reflection of the kind of athlete who leaves everything on the floor and lifts everyone around her.
Congratulations Alicia and to the Agates for their big win over the Panthers!
