WYLLIS D. OLSON

Wyllis D. Olson, age 99, a proud veteran of the US Navy, passed away peacefully at the Silver Bay Veterans home on December 15th.

Wyllis served as mechanic’s mate on the USS Susan B Anthony during WWll. The ship struck a mine and sank off the coast of Normandy in June, 1944.

Born in Proctor MN, Wyllis spent most of his life in Silver Bay. He worked at Reserve Mining for 33 years. Wyllis was passionate about exercising and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

His most rewarding pastimes were inventing gadgets (toothpaste tube holder) and volunteering at the Vet’s home. Wyllis was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Lidya and his beloved daughter Robyn.

He is survived by his children; Noel Mishler (Jack) of Port Angeles, WA, Joel (Kathy) of Plymouth, Michael (Carrie) of Duluth, Kim (Jodi) of Cottage Grove, Randy (Jennifer) of Plymouth and Jeffrey of Magnolia,TX. Wyllis is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren all of whom loved him dearly.
