MATTHEW J. MARNICH (April 24, 1978- September 14, 2024)

Matthew J. Marnich, 46, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 14, 2024 at Essentia Hospital from heart failure due to Covid and sepsis. Born in Duluth on April 24, 1978, Matthew was raised in Two Harbors and was a graduate of the THHS class of ‘97. He was a strong guy and a hard worker. After high school he worked for the City, Minnesota Conservation Crew, the DNR for several years, and had certificate in grassland firefighting. He worked in Silver Bay for VanHouse Construction and other jobs. He went to LSC for welding. He was most proud of sailing the Great Lakes on the Dorothy Pathfinder and especially the Stuart J. Cort. He had many stories of storms on the lake and traveling under the Mackinac bridge and down the St. Mary’s river. During that time he took training at the Great Lakes Academy.

Matt had a funny sense of humor. He was very artistic and spent a lot of time drawing and he enjoyed music and had a large collection of vinyl.

Matthew’s favorite place was the cabin in the Apostle Islands. As a child he would visit his grandparents there and enjoyed driving Grandpa’s power boat over to the islands. After their passing, he enjoyed the serenity of the cabin and helped his mother care-take the property.

He leaves behind his parents, Barbara and Ned Marnich, and his sister, Ashley (Ben McNeally) Marnich.

No formal services are planned.
