LEON E. HOLBECK

December 11, 1942 – March 15, 2026     

Leon E. Holbeck, age 83, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay. Born on December 11, 1942, in Two Harbors, Minnesota, Leon was the son of Aaron and Eva (Anderson) Holbeck. He grew up in Two Harbors, where he attended school before serving his country in the U.S. Navy.

Following his honorable discharge, Leon returned to Two Harbors and built a career as an electrician. His professional tenure included positions with Duluth Avionics, Abex, Cooperative Light and Power, and the DM & IR Railroad.

Leon was a life-member of the American Legion and was a member and Past Master of the Two Harbors Masonic Lodge.

Upon retirement, Leon and his wife Shirley spent time living in the states of Virginia and North Carolina before eventually returning to northern Minnesota where they resided in Aurora for several years. Throughout his life, Leon found pleasure in several pastimes. He enjoyed playing the accordion, fishing, engaging in games of cribbage, caring for family pets, and traveling. Notably, he took memorable trips to Finland and Germany.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Eva Holbeck; his sister, Judith Holbeck; and his sister-in-law Diane Holbeck. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Holbeck; his sons, Brent (Debra) Holbeck and Todd (Cynde) Holbeck; grandsons, Brandon, Wesley, and Nathan; brothers, Michael Holbeck, Kenneth (Shannon) Holbeck, and Neal (Colleen) Holbeck; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life honoring Leon’s memory will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the American Legion in Two Harbors. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Toimi Cemetery.
