October 1, 1958 – November 19, 2025
Karen Lynn Erickson, 67, of Proctor, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on November 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Karen was born on October 1, 1958, in Moose Lake, MN, to Edmund and Arlene Kane. She grew up in Silver Bay, where she created many cherished memories and graduated from Kelley High School in 1977. She went on to attend Duluth Business University, earning her business degree in 1978.
Karen began her professional life at Bell Telephone in Duluth as an order typist. It was during this time that she met her husband, Charles Erickson, in 1979. The two were married in Silver Bay on May 2, 1981, and a year later settled in Proctor to begin building their family. Karen stepped away from work for a short time to raise their children, a role she treasured deeply. She later served as the school secretary at St. Rose Parochial School, where she was a comforting and familiar presence to students, staff, and families alike.
Once her children graduated from St. Rose, Karen embarked on a 26-year career with Kohl’s Department Store, ultimately serving as assistant store manager. She retired in 2024, leaving behind coworkers who had become lifelong friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Arlene Kane. She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Erickson; her children, Charles Erickson (Jenna), Kelly Bennett, and Brian Melde (Gay); five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Kane (Roxanne), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Karen cherished spending time at her grandmother’s farm growing up. She loved traveling with her family, visiting extended family in Europe, and had a special fondness for lighthouses-especially Split Rock Lighthouse. She also enjoyed days at the beach and the time shared with loved ones. At home, she found joy in painting ceramics, creating many cherished pieces over the years. Above all, Karen loved watching her grandchildren grow.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and coworkers. Karen was a steady, loving presence-the true heart of her family.
The family would like to send special thanks to Proctor Essentia health clinic, Monica McDevitt and all the staff at Essentia Health Hospice for their care of Karen during her illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m., at St. Rose Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow at the Proctor Moose Club.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
