GEORGE V. KROG (December 24, 1930 – October 19, 2024)

George V. Krog, 93, of Two Harbors died Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Barross Cottages. He was born on December 24, 1930 to George and Sophia (Hranic) Krog in Benoit, Wisconsin and grew up in Port Wing.

In the early 1950’s he served in the U. S. Navy Seabees in the Philippines. After a four-year apprenticeship program, he was employed as a machinist for 42 years, ending with 16 years at Hahn Machinery in Two Harbors.

George enjoyed down-hill skiing until age 83, and was instrumental in urging the Minnesota DNR to waive the “bucks only” provision for hunters over 80 years of age. Times at the family cabin in Danbury were very important to him.

On December 3, 1966 he married Marjorie Gerber. They lived in Duluth for several years until moving to Two Harbors in 1978.

George was a member of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marge; brothers, Steve, John, and Joe; and sisters, Mary and Rose.

George is survived by his daughters, Viola (Eric) Hanson of Two Harbors, and Alma (Rob) Teigen of Ramsey; granddaughters, Alexis (Taylor) Ross, Katarina (Joe) Bredow, Audrey Hanson, April (Travis) Stjern, and Natalie Teigen; a great-grandson, Emmett Ross; and his wife from a late-in-life marriage, Kathryn.
