BRUCE HAUGER (November 1, 1952 – July 4, 2024)

Bruce Hauger, 71, died of a heart attack at home with his family on the 4th of July, following months of declining health. Bruce was born in Minneapolis on November 1, 1952 as the youngest of JJ and Glenna Hauger’s three children. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Edina High School. Bruce married his first wife, Janna Dreher, in 1973. They moved to Two Harbors, MN and had daughters Callia and Erika. In 1990, Bruce married Angela Rosenberg. They built their home in rural Duluth and had children Lily and Jake. Bruce loved his children and was proud to have raised them to ski, enjoy the BWCA, make music, take care of their vehicles, and to be responsible, hardworking adults. Bruce graduated from the University of MN, Twin Cities, with a major in Physical Therapy. He later completed a Master’s degree at the University of MN, Duluth, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Concordia University, Mequon, WI. He worked as a PT for 40 years in the Twin Ports and Moose Lake. Bruce took a break from PT for a few years in the early 1980’s to build houses as Split Rock Construction. He also loved his nineteen years of teaching and doing research as a faculty member of the PT Department at The College of St. Scholastica. He was a gifted teacher and didn’t mind being the center of attention whether it was in the classroom, on a music stage, or calling radio talk shows as “Bruce on the North Shore.” Bruce was a life-long musician, playing tuba and bass guitar and singing a variety of bands, including the Two Harbors City Band. He especially loved downhill skiing, camping in the BWCA, talking about anything with an “internal combustion engine,” vacationing in California, and telling Ole and Lena jokes. He was a member of the United Church in Two Harbors.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law John Rosenberg, and brother-in-law Malachi Sanchez.

Bruce will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Angela; children Callia (Winston) of Mandan, ND, Erika (Tanner) of Clearwater, MN, Lily of Duluth, and Jake (Jill) of Minneapolis; grandchildren Ayda, Jorn, Eva, Zachary, Xander, Eve and Xavier; sister Martha Sanchez, brother Wally Hauger (Linda), mother-in-law LaVaun Rosenberg, brother-in-law Greg Rosenberg (Leah), and sister-in-law Laura Gallati (Gerald); a nephew, nieces, grandnieces, and cousins, and his best dog ever, Buddy. Bruce also leaves a network of dear friends, too numerous to name, made in various times of his life.

Bruce’s family would like to thank Dr. Kleinschmidt of St. Luke’s for his years of support of Bruce and Ecumen Hospice nurse, Amber, for her invaluable help on his last day. The past assistance of the Clifton Fire Department EMS is also appreciated. Please join the family any time between noon and 3:00 pm for an informal celebration of life and light lunch at the MN Cremation Society Memorial Chapel at 4100 Grand Ave. in Duluth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to your favorite cause.
