Hunter Earl Timo Sentenced to 90 Months for Two Harbors Sexual Assault

LAKE COUNTY, MN — On May 18, 2026, Hunter Earl Timo was sentenced to 90 months in prison for a June 2024 sexual assault in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

The sentencing follows a January 5, 2026 plea hearing, where Timo pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He admitted to entering a bedroom on June 26, 2024, and engaging in sexual contact with a victim while knowing she was asleep and physically helpless.

The case was investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office, following a referral from Lake County Attorney Lara Nygaard.

While the Attorney General’s Office primarily focuses on civil cases, it can take on criminal prosecutions under Minnesota Statute section 8.01, which allows the office to step in at the request of a county attorney.

Following the sentencing, Attorney General Ellison released a statement reinforcing his office’s commitment to justice: “Today, Hunter Timo faced justice for his disgraceful conduct. I hope Hunter’s sentencing can provide some measure of solace for his victim, and I am praying for her well-being in this difficult time.”

Ellison added that his office will continue to partner with local law enforcement across Minnesota to ensure those who harm their fellow citizens are held fully accountable.
