Dear Northlanders,
Last week I was invited to join Geologists who discovered the largest deposit of Helium on the planet. Guess where it is located? In our own backyard, in Babbitt MN. It was an amazing experience to join legislators for a tour deep into the woods in Babbitt, MN last week. While many of us use balloons with Helium to decorate at parties, the importance of Helium is far beyond balloons.
Helium is critical for medical equipment and dental equipment. Helium is crucial for the diagnosis of strokes, heart conditions, cancer and spinal cord injuries. This is fantastic news to assure diagnostic testing can occur timely for us all. Access to precious resources is important to assure access to critical healthcare needs.
Mining taxation and royalties from this helium would be an economic success for the Two Harbors community. When talking with the Geologists, they stated Two Harbors makes sense as a processing and shipping location. This is a great opportunity to build more jobs, and grow the economy and tax base for the region. A strong tax base helps the schools, city, and county provide the needed and necessary services. With Lake Superior School District facing significant cuts, this influx of money to our region is welcomed.
Pulsar is the company who has invested millions in our region and this is exciting for Two Harbors economic development. I look forward to working across the aisle to continue to get things done for our region, and lead the way for our state and country. No one will do it better than Northern Minnesota.
Exciting times for our region.
Getting things done,
Rep. Natalie Zeleznikar
