Benefit Concert Raises Over $10,000 for Brimson Fire Survivors

Rep. Natalie Zeleznikar was honored to attend a benefit concert held at Hugo’s Bar on November 15th to support residents who lost everything in the recent Brimson fires. The evening featured bonfires, live music by Northwoods Band, raffles, and what many described as one of the most heartfelt Northern Minnesota gatherings in recent memory.

By 5 p.m., the venue was filled to capacity, with standing room only inside and a packed outdoor tent. Community members enjoyed dancing, laughing, and sharing stories of resilience as they reflected on the remarkable recovery efforts following such devastating loss.

The event raised more than $10,000, a record-setting total that left organizers and attendees overjoyed.

Hunters from near and far stopped by, many returning to the area for the first time since the fire. One hunting shack saved through the efforts of firefighters allowed a group to continue their annual tradition. “We couldn’t believe it,” they shared, expressing deep gratitude to those who protected it.

Rep. Zeleznikar offered a special shout-out to the newly named Fire Department of the Year, the Brimson Volunteer Fire Department, for their exceptional work. She also extended thanks to the Two Harbors Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Two Harbors for serving as the regional dispatch center and Incident Command Center during the crisis.

“This evening was a highlight of my time in service,” Zeleznikar said. “We laughed, we danced, we cried, and we celebrated what makes Northern Minnesota special the heartbeat of amazing community members who care deeply for their neighbors.” She thanked all who contributed, adding, “Job well done, and thank you for your kindness and caring for your neighbors both near and far.”
