Landscape Project Kicks off at the Silver Bay Library

Saturday, April 25th, was the library’s kickoff event to help raise the last funds for their outdoor project. The Landscaping Project is phase 2 of the library’s renovation and expansion project. Due to budget constraints, they had to cut landscaping from their original plans. However, they were lucky to have a local landscape designer help them create a beautiful plan for the exterior of the library. It will make their outdoor spaces feel warm and welcoming, keeping in mind how so many people love to enjoy the outdoors. This landscaping project will incorporate a variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials to brighten up the outside spaces. Although this is the first year of the project, in the past, they have had some potted plants and garden boxes on the old porch, but this is a whole building design.

Community members have the opportunity to sponsor the plants in the garden. The library already had over 1/2 of the plants sponsored this past weekend! If you are interested in sponsoring some plants, stop in the library, see the design, and pick plants that inspire you. Anyone who sponsors a plant has the option to get a name plate (for themselves or in honor of a loved one).

Once the ground dries up a bit, they will begin doing the planting work and are looking at early June to start. Plans will be shared on their Facebook page and website. The Silver Bay Public Library is excited to welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering to help with a variety of tasks and opportunities, including planting and installation. If interested, contact the library at 218-226-4331 or email silverbay‑publiclibrary@agneswhitman206

This outdoor landscaping project is designed to be as low-maintenance as possible. However, there will be some ongoing light care that community members will be able to help with.

The library will also plant a garden on the Davis Drive side of the building with space for people to share plants from their gardens. If you are interested, stop in or call the library, and they will provide further information.

This project has been funded by the hard work of the Friends of the Library and generous donations from local community members, which they are grateful for all the support they have received.

As for Bay Days, the library will be having its big Friends of the Library Book Sale again this year. They are hoping some of the landscaping work will be completed by that time for folks to peruse.

The library is also ramping up for a great summer season with their all-ages reading program, early childhood story time, and so much more! Stay tuned for all the great things happening at the Silver Bay Library this year.
