Letter to the Editor

6/24/24

In the June 21 issue of the Journal and an ad was printed paid for by the Lake and Cook County Republicans.

In it, it was stated “In Minnesota, you don’t need an identifiable address, “I live under the bridge” would work.” [sic]

I called a Republican poll worker to fact check. She said that if you haven’t voted in four years you would have to provide identification to register and vote on election day. Usually a drivers license. If you’ve voted in the last four years your name will be included in your precincts roster.

She also stated that undocumented immigrants can’t vote in Minnesota.

She also stated that she couldn’t speak to Wisconsin’s voting laws, student or otherwise.

Having read the same ad, she said she hoped it wouldn’t be interpreted as a sorry indictment of all Republicans but just the authors.
