World renowned violin & accordion duo from Poland, Karolina Mikolajczyk & Iwo Jedynecki, will perform as Guest Artists of the second edition of the Northern MN based Chamber Music Up North (CMUN) series. Presented by Third Coast Chamber Collective (TCCC), the series kick off with a performance in Grand Rapids’ must-see community venue, CoHaus on Thursday, November 20 at 7:00 pm and continues with concerts in Du luth on November 21 (The College of St.Scholastica), Grand Marais on November 22 (Bethlehem Lutheran Church) and Two Harbors on November 23 (Emmanuel Lutheran Church).
Duo Karolina & Iwo is one of the most vibrant and innovative chamber ensembles of the current generation of classical musicians. Recognized by artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Maxim Vengerov, in 2024 they have been awarded Poland’s most prestigious prize for classical music – the ‘Polityka Pass port’ – with duo being praised for its ‘versatility and ability to navigate through diverse musical realms; virtuosity, unbridled imagination, and ingenuity in selecting and creating new repertoire for the distinctive combination of violin and accordion’. The artists are prize winners at international competitions and appeared at the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Esplanade Concert Hall (Singapore), The Edge Melbourne (Australia), Teatro del Lago (Chile), Guang zhou Opera House, Warsaw Philharmonic (Poland), etc. The Duo will be joined on stage by TCCC core musicians, Grand Rapids based cellist Magdalena Sas and violinist Evgeny Zvonnikov, faculty at West Texas A&M University. As a string duo, Magdalena & Evgeny have performed in venues across the US presenting diverse repertoire for violin & cello with programs highlighting music written by women composers.
The 2025 winter edition of CMUN titled Notes From The Road presents an exciting repertoire from every corner of the world, featuring music influenced by diverse cultures and traditions. Works by An ton Dvorak and Astor Piazzolla will be performed alongside pieces by contemporary Polish and American composers and music drawing in spiration from Hungarian folk and Indian classical music.
