The Two Harbors girls swim team has continued to make waves this September, delivering standout performances across three competitive meets, including a varsity win at Mesabi East, a strong showing at the Hibbing Invite, and a podium finish at the Andrea Soderlind Invitational.
Victory at Mesabi East
Two Harbors split results between varsity and junior varsity squads in their meet against host Mesabi East. The varsity team edged out the Giants 98–82, while the JV squad fell just short, 81–71. Key performances included a winning varsity 400-yard freestyle relay from Rylee Schmitz, Brynn von Goertz, Lucy Lane, and Bella Imholte, who posted a time of 4:05.90.
The JV relay also claimed first with a 5:06.52 finish. Individual wins came from Lane (50 and 500 freestyle), Imholte (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Kate Senst (100 backstroke, 50 butterfly), and Schmitz (100 butterfly). Harper Smith led the team in diving with 145.15 points on the 1-meter board.
Hibbing Invite Highlights
At the Hibbing Swimming & Diving Invite, Two Harbors athletes continued to impress. Smith placed third in girls 1-meter diving with 237.10 points. In the 200 Medley Relay, Imholte, Oswald-Swenson, MJ Wharton, and Lane placed third with a time of 2:06.91.
Imholte won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.11. Lane placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle. Wharton and von Goertz earned top-10 finishes in sprint events, while Oswald-Swenson and Schmitz added points in the IM and butterfly. Younger swimmers like Claire Dreier (8th grade) and Toby McDonald also contributed.
Andrea Soderlind Invitational
Two Harbors capped the stretch with a strong team performance at the Andrea Soderlind Invitational, finishing second overall.
Imholte, Smith, Wharton, and von Goertz earned silver in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 2:06.05, just behind MLCA-MN. Imholte took first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.92), with Lane close behind in second. von Goertz placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100. Wharton, Ella Aebly, and Lucy Dreier added depth in freestyle events, while Schmitz, Natalia Smith, and Senst contributed in the butterfly.
Younger swimmers continued to shine, with key points from von Goertz and Aebly (both in 10th grade), reinforcing the team’s future strength.
Cloquet Dual Highlights
The Agates carried their momentum into a dual against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, where the varsity squad came out on top 107–76. The junior varsity fell in a close contest, 64–60.
Imholte led the way with wins in the 200 freestyle (2:00.93) and 100 backstroke (1:02.66). Wharton added a victory in the 100 freestyle (1:03.45), while Schmitz captured the 200 IM (2:41.62). von Goertz touched first in the 50 freestyle with a 27.82 finish.
In diving, Smith secured first place with 163.40 points, followed by Scandin in second. Oswald-Swenson contributed another win in the 100 breaststroke, with Johnson and Larson finishing close behind for valuable points.
Younger swimmers again made their mark. Dreier and McDonald took the top two spots in the 500 freestyle, while Brandt, Smoot, Wright, and Kinsey turned in strong results in JV sprints and relays.
Together, the varsity lineup and developing depth at the junior varsity level showed that Two Harbors can compete across the board, from the blocks to the diving board. From seasoned leaders to rising talent, the Agates girls swim team is building momentum with every meet. Their combination of experience, teamwork, and tenacity promises an exciting finish to the season.
