Silver Bay Public Library to Launch Saturday Hours in 2026

SILVER BAY, MN — Residents of Silver Bay will soon have more time to browse the stacks and utilize local resources. Starting January 10, 2026, the Silver Bay Public Library will officially expand its operations to include Saturday hours.

The library will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the academic year. This seasonal schedule begins the weekend following Labor Day and concludes the weekend prior to Memorial Day.

The decision to expand follows a comprehensive 2025 strategic planning process. During this period, the Library Board reviewed community input that highlighted a significant demand for weekend library access. Following the Board’s formal recommendation, the Silver Bay City Council recognized and supported the decision to approve the initiative to better serve the public. “Community members have consistently shared that Saturday access is important for families, students, and working adults,” said Shannon Walz, Director of the Silver Bay Public Library. “We’re pleased that the Library Board listened and responded to that feedback and that the City Council supported the decision of the board. We are excited to be an inviting place for people to play, relax, and get work done on Saturdays.”

The expanded hours are intended to provide a flexible space for students needing weekend study time and working professionals who cannot visit during traditional weekday hours.

For further details regarding available services, community members can contact the library directly at 218-226-4331.
