With hockey season wrapping up for many teams, the 12U North Shore Storm girls hockey team is extending theirs after claiming first place in the District 11 Playoffs at Sonju Arena the weekend of February 14th. You read that right—these girls are DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!
The team has had a stellar season, kicking things off with a tournament win in December in International Falls. In January, they continued their dominance, taking first in the Great Lake Skate in Two Harbors. Their final tournament of the season was in February, where they traveled to Detroit Lakes and secured 2nd place.
On Valentine’s Day, the team was feeling the love as they entered the District 11 tournament as the top seed, earning the advantage of home ice.
Their first game was a dominant 3-0 shut-out against Proctor/ Hermantown. The Storm made it clear to the Mirage—they saw them, and they could beat them.
To secure a spot in Regionals, the girls had to tame the Rebels of Moose Lake. When the teams clashed in December, it was a nail-biter, with the Storm edging out a 4-3 victory. This time, they left no doubt, capturing the District Championship with a commanding 7-1 win.
Regionals will take place from February 28th to March 2nd in Silver Bay, with the Storm’s first game on Friday at 6 p.m. against International Falls. The teams have split their season series— North Shore shut out the Bron-cos 6-0 in December, while International Falls took the rematch in January.
It’s sure to be a great battle! Head to Rukavina Arena to cheer on the Storm as they fight for the Regional title.
