North Shore Federal Credit Union’s Hunger Hero Program Continues to Fight Hunger Locally

North Shore Federal Credit Union’s Hunger Hero Program Surpasses $396,000 in Total Contributions.

January 2026 – North Shore Federal Credit Union (NSFCU) is proud to share the continued success of its Hunger Hero program, reinforcing their long-standing commitment to addressing food insecurity across Lake, Cook, and St. Louis Counties.

To close out the year, NSFCU’s December Hunger Hero Campaign saw incredible community support. Members and community partners raised $13,000, and with an additional $3,000 matching contribution from NSFCU, a total of $16,000 was donated to local food shelves.

“Hunger is a challenge that exists right here in our own communities, and the Hunger Hero program is our way of showing up for our neighbors in a meaningful way,” said Cassie Ernest, President of North Shore Federal Credit Union. “We’re incredibly grateful to our members and community partners whose generosity continues to make a real difference for families across Lake, Cook, and St. Louis Counties.”

2025 Hunger Hero Impact Total Donations in 2025: $41,797

Funds were raised through Hunger Hero campaigns, community events, and ongoing donations, supporting Lake, Cook, and St. Louis Counties.

Program Milestones Total Contributions Since 2016: $396,668

Since its launch in 2016, the Hunger Hero program has focused on supporting local food shelves and backpack nutrition programs, ensuring families and students throughout the North Shore region have access to essential food resources year-round

Organizations supported through NSFCU’s Hunger Hero program include:

• Cook County Food Shelf

• Ruby’s Pantry – Grand Marais and Silver Bay

• Silver Bay Food Shelf

• Two Harbors Area Food Shelf

• Second Harvest – Northern Lakes Food Bank (Duluth)

In addition, NSFCU proudly supports backpack nutrition programs each September in Grand Portage, Grand Marais, and Silver Bay, helping ensure students have consistent access to nutritious meals outside of school hours.

As NSFCU continues to grow — with branches serving communities from Grand Portage to Duluth and a new office in Pike Lake — their commitment to supporting local needs remains a core part of who they are.

NSFCU extends their sincere thanks to their members, staff, and community partners who continue to make the Hunger Hero program possible. Together, we are making a meaningful difference for our neighbors in need.
