North Shore Rallies

Citizens along the North Shore joined an estimated 8 million demonstrators across the nation on March 28th in No Kings Rallies to protest the unconstitutional actions of the president. Rallies in Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Grand Marais drew hundreds of sign-bearing protesters chanting, singing, marching, and voicing their concerns.

All three protests were organized by local Indivisible groups: Two Harbors Breakwall, Finland Silver Bay Indivisible, and Arrowhead Indivisible (Cook County). There are currently 3,300 registered Indivisible organizations in the U.S. This was the third No Kings event, reportedly the largest day of protest in US history. Indivisible is a nationwide movement “to stop the rise of authoritarianism in the United States and to build a real democracy that works for all of us.” The intent of these protests is to give people an opportunity to speak out against what they see as the fascist takeover of their government.

In Grand Marais, it is estimated that over 400 protesters gathered at the Cook County Courthouse with signs and spirit in spite of cold temperatures and snow. After a program of speeches, songs, and chants, they marched through blizzard-like conditions to the harbor, where the snow abated and the program continued.

In Silver Bay, people gathered at the corner of Highway 61 and Outer Drive, while the Two Harbors protesters convened at the Lakeview Cemetery.

Donald Trump chose to play golf during the afternoon rallies. Although millions of protesters across the nation tried to make their voices heard, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson stated, “The only people who care about these Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions are the reporters who are paid to cover them,” according to various news outlets.
