In an intense start to the season this fall, the Cook County Boys Basketball team faced South Ridge in a gripping double-overtime battle that ended in a 56-57 loss. On January 19th, the Vikings were ready to avenge that loss. In the home game against their formidable opponent, they came out victorious with a 68-51 final score.
Friday’s win broke a three-game losing streak against Greenway, Two Harbors, and McGregor.
The standout performance came from Sequoia Morrin, a junior, who played well on both ends of the court. With 2 points, 3 steals, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds, Morrin’s defense was a highlight of the game.
Acknowledging outstanding contributions, the team awarded 11th grader Denali Blackwell the Energy Award. He had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Another Energy Award recipient was Rohan Rude, also in the 11th grade. He notched an impressive 20 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds. Rude’s free-throw record was perfect for the night, scoring 10 out of 10. Additionally, MaCoy Fairbanks, a freshman, earned the Energy Award for his first career double-double, with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists.
In the Junior Varsity category, Grant Oberg was awarded for his exceptional performance, scoring 20 points, and earning the Hustle Award.
The Vikings recently announced they are adding two additional home games to their upcoming schedule. On Saturday, February 24th, at 2 PM, they will go up against the Blackduck Drakes. Following that, on Monday, February 26th, the Varsity team will face the Bigfork Huskies at 6:30 PM. Monday’s game will celebrate Senior Night, where four seniors will be recognized.
