Bev Bright Memorial Pet Walk is the Cat’s Meow!!!

The Lake County Humane Society has held the Pet Walk as a fundraiser for over 20 years. It was renamed the Bev Bright Me­morial Pet Walk after Bev’s death in 2012 in her honor. Bev was a longtime volunteer at the humane soci­ety and served on the board. She had a real love for all people and animals and was always willing to help others. Her grandchil­dren were her pride and joy. Each year, her grandchildren lead the pet walk and volunteer at the fund­raiser.

This year the memo­rial walk raised just over $9,000. There were over 100 people and dogs that partic­ipated in the walk in order to raise money for the great cause. The largest fundraiser was Michelle Frazier, who raised $1,610. Lovin’ Lake County covers all the event’s expenses, so all the profits raised go di­rectly to caring for the lost, abandoned, and homeless ani­mals of Lake County. There are currently 4 part-time staff and 12 active volunteers at the Humane Soci­ety. All the staff and volunteers work hard throughout the year to help and protect the helpless animals. Great job, to every­one who has made an effort to make a dif­ference.

There were many fun activities that took place during the pet walk. A raffle with a variety of great prizes including yard games, a TV and a circular saw. There was a pie social with a wide array of flavors from Rustic Inn. The Car­amel Apple Pecan Pie was excellent. There was also Bingo with great prizes and face painting. All of these activities were addi­tional ways to raise money for the ani­mals. Following is a list of sponsors which so generously con­tributed to the raffles, bingo, and pie social:

Here are a few up­dates about the Shel­ter: Great news, Diesel got adopted! Due to the Lake County Humane Society’s Volunteers hard work, the whole shelter was empty for one whole day. That is definitely something to celebrate. Unfor­tunately, that is not normal. Keep in mind kitty season is coming up.
