Grand Marais, MN. (6/27/2024)— University of Minnesota Extension is partnering with the Lake Superior Chapter of the Sustainable Farming Association and the local Northwoods Food Project to host a field tour in August at Good Nature Farm.
The field tour will take place on Friday, August 9th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Participants will meet at the farm field located on the right-hand side of Casper’s Hill Road in Grand Marais just before fire number 122. After touring this field, we’ll proceed as a group to the family farmstead further up Caspter’s Hill Road. There is no fee to attend the field tour. Advance registration is requested; however, walk-ups are welcome.
Good Nature Farm is a family farm and off-grid solar-powered homestead growing produce and raising laying hens. They sell their farm products at farmers markets, through CSAs, and to local restaurants, schools and food co-ops. Attendees will meet farmers Nick and Kristin DeArruda Wharton and connect with fellow local farmers and producers. “Meeting and learning from fellow farmers and local food producers is a great way for both beginning and established producers to gain insights into growing food in our region”, says Local Extension Educator Sarah Waddle.
