Judy’s Café Honored with Aging Impact Award for Fostering Community-

For the first time in Minnesota’s history, residents aged 65 and older outnumber those 18 and under. As this demographic shift continues, so does the recognition of older adults’ impact—both economically and within their communities. In 2024 alone, Americans over 50 contributed $8.3 trillion to the economy.

With these facts in mind, the Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging (AAAA) has joined the Age-Friendly movement, a global effort to make communities more inclusive and respectful of all ages. As the state-designated agency addressing the needs of older adults in the Arrowhead Region, the AAAA works with local providers to offer services like meal programs, caregiver support, transportation, and in-home assistance.

As part of its mission, the AAAA presents the Aging Impact Award to businesses and organizations that go above and beyond in supporting older adults. Nominees must show innovation—whether through adapting their physical spaces, improving hiring practices and customer service, or offering unique programs that benefit seniors in the community.

This year, Judy’s Café in Two Harbors was selected as a recipient of the award after being nominated by Community Partners’ Deb Scott, who highlighted the café’s role as “the place where locals go to enjoy the company of friends and neighbors.”

In its award letter, the AAAA emphasized the importance of social connections and the need for “third spaces”—community hubs where people of all ages can come together.

Beyond fostering friendships, Judy’s Café actively supports local nonprofits, helping provide food for fundraising events at reasonable prices.

The award letter concluded with a clear statement of appreciation: “After reviewing your nomination, the committee unanimously decided you deserve this award!”

For Judy’s Café, the Aging Impact Award is a reflection of what they’ve always done—serving great food with a side of community.
