Harbor Art and Dollhouse Gallery Prepares to Open

A unique new business is making its debut Saturday, March 15 in Two Harbors. From 4-7 p.m., the Harbor Art and Dollhouse Gallery will be holding their grand opening, introducing the public to an opportunity to view custom made dollhouses and acrylic paintings. Owned by Jacquie Eubanks and Scott Berglund, the business combines their passions for dollhouses and art.

Jacquie Eubanks has made dollhouses for 45 years. “Every kid should have a dollhouse, and every big kid.” She describes creating and furnishing dollhouses as great for relaxation, “kind of like meditation.” When Eubanks’ son was young, he would help her with shingling the dollhouse roofs. Originally from Minnesota, Eubanks was a public health administrator and lived in Florida for a time, doing dollhouse shows in Sarasota.

Eubanks plans to sell dollhouses in different stages from completely finished to partially finished, where people can choose how they’d like the final house to look. She describes the detailed dollhouses as a “hobby for adults”, but does want to eventually offer classes for kids to create a small dollhouse. One of her goals through this venture is to encourage creativity and keep the art of dollhouse making alive.

Scott Berglund, a carpenter by trade specializing in cabinetry making, first met Eubanks when she moved back to Two Harbors from Florida, and he was contracted to remodel her home. Besides carpentry, Berglund is also an acrylic painter whose paintings include pictures of Split Rock Lighthouse, wildlife, and portraits of people’s pets. He eventually hopes to offer classes in pet portraiture.

To kick off the Harbor Art and Dollhouse Gallery, a contest will be held. Berglund built shadow boxes, which for $25 each can be purchased and decorated with an Easter theme. Three community members will then judge the boxes, and the winner will receive $500 and have their box displayed at the gallery for two weeks.

The Harbor Art and Dollhouse Gallery is located at 620 B First Avenue, next to Wells Fargo and the quilt shop. Harbor Art and Dollhouse Gallery welcome to Two Harbors!

Haley Searls
Hello! My name is Haley Searls. I’ve loved writing from an early age, though my nonfiction writing at five years old consisted mainly of weather and gardening reports. I still have some of those early articles: “It’s sunny.” “It’s still sunny.” “It’s raining.” I’m glad to say my writing has improved since then. I wrote a guest post for the Silver Bay Public Library blog, and was the writer/editor of the newsletter for my American Heritage Girls troop. I have been writing for the North Shore Journal since June 2022. Besides writing, I love reading, drawing, photography, music, and spending time with family and friends. Two books that have really influenced my writing are Reforming Journalism by Marvin Olasky and Writer to Writer by Bodie and Brock Thoene. As a journalist, I want to share positive community interactions and inspire people to make lasting connections. Article topics that interest me are ones which show community activities and involvement. Such articles include community events, youth accomplishments, library programming, small businesses, local history, local artists and authors, art programs, and cultural events such as theater and dance. If you have an article idea, email the North Shore Journal with my name in the subject line! I look forward to hearing from you!
