Letters to the Editor

Hey,

President Biden’s new tax hike proposal on capital gains and dividend earnings will go as high as 44.6%. If your taxable income is between $47,000 and $519,000 you would pay 15% on your capital gains and dividends.

Gov. Waltz has proposed an additional 1.5% tax on the same.

The 5 states with higher overall tax rates than Minnesota are Cali, Hawaii, NY, New Jersey and Oregon.

Minnesota sales tax is currently at 6.88%.

The corporate tax cuts Pres. Trump implemented were given to US companies if they moved their corporations back on US soil. This move would make all corporate profits taxable in America.

Please always do your homework. Check several sources. Vote for your values and God Bless America.

Respectfully,
The Republican Precinct Committee

Letter to the Editor in response to the April 26, 2024 inflammatory mischaracterizations by the anonymous “Republican Precinct Committee”, published herein on April 26, 2024.

Revisor number: 24-05638

A bill for an act relating to human rights; making changes to provisions in the Minnesota Human Rights Act; providing for civil penalty and punitive damages.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2023 Supplement, section 363A.02, subdivision 1, is amended to read:

Subdivision 1.

Freedom from discrimination.

(a) It is the public policy of this state to secure for persons in this state freedom from discrimination:

(1) in employment because of one or more of the following: race, color, creed, religion,

national origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, familial status, and age;

(2) in housing and real property because of one or more of the following: race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, and familial status;

(3) in public accommodations because of one or more of the following: race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability;

(4) in public services because of one or more of the following: race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, and status with regard to public assistance; and

(5) in education because of one or more of the following: race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, and age.

(b) Such discrimination threatens the rights and privileges of the inhabitants of this state and menaces the institutions and foundations of democracy. It is also the public policy of this state to protect all persons from wholly unfounded charges of discrimination. Nothing in this chapter shall be interpreted as restricting the implementation of positive action programs to combat discrimination.

Once again, Republican hyperbole is attempting to deflect and obfuscate through their alarmist rhetoric, falsely representing the establishment of non-discriminatory legislation as an attack on “religious freedoms” – positing that the right to practice discrimination MUST be within the purview of their dubious religiosity, demanding an exemption to foist their prejudices upon all others the very anthesis of their plaintive remonstrations.

In no manner does this “anti-discrimination” legislation violate either the Constitutions of the United States or the State of Minnesota: to the contrary, it validates the affirmation that “all are created equal”!

In order to preserve our democracy, an informed electorate deserves the truth and what passes for the contemporary Republican party – coopted by “anything but Christian” right wing extremists — continues to do the utmost to deny that critical right.
