On May 8, all students, families, and community members in Cook County are invited to start Walk and Bike to School Day with a walk or bike ride to school or work. There are two Walking/Biking School Bus routes heading to ISD 166 and Great Expectations Schools in Grand Marais.
If your student typically gets a ride to school, you are welcome to walk or bike with a Walking/Biking School Bus from one of the starting locations: the Cook County Courthouse (7:30 a.m. departure) or the Community Center Parking Lot (7:30 a.m. departure). Students and community members are welcome to join along the route or meet at the starting location.
Light refreshments will be served outside the Community Center entrance to celebrate the event!
Walk and Bike to School Day is an initiative spearheaded by community members and the local Safe Routes to School Committee and Active Living Steering Committee (ALSC). The initiative works to make it safer and more accessible for students to walk or bike to school.
Cook County Safe Routes to School (SRTS) strives to improve the health of kids and the community by making walking and bicycling to school safer, easier, and more enjoyable.
This work is supported by the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) through Healthy Northland Community Health Board and Cook County Public Health and Human Services.
