Raymond H. Welsh, 72, of Two Harbors, died Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Ray was born August 13, 1951, to Harold and Esther (Purdy) Welsh in Duluth, where he grew up and graduated from East High School. Later, he attended UMD where his interest was in geology.
He was employed as a deck hand on the Lake Superior ore boats and in 1973 visited Alaska to canoe the Yukon River with friends. He moved to Alaska in 1974 to work on the pipeline and returned to Minnesota in 1976. He purchased 80 acres of beautiful land north of Two Harbors, where he spent the rest of his life. He was employed as a laborer in road construction.
He enjoyed the great outdoors, his vegetable garden, camping, and especially fishing.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William G. Welsh.
He is survived by his sister Frances Welsh; a sister-in-law, Linda Welsh; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, followed by burial in Silver Creek Cemetery.
