The Two Harbors City Council began their Monday night meeting commemorating the life of Brad Jones, who passed away on Saturday, February 24th, at the age of 57. Jones spent 27 years working for the city of Two Harbors as a member of the Water and Gas Department. In addition, he served as a member of the Two Harbors City Council from 2003 to 2005 and on the Lake County Board from 2007 to 2015, where he worked on multiple boards and commissions throughout the county and region. Council Chair Robin Glaser acknowledged Brad’s many years of dedication and service to the community and the loss that people who knew and worked with him are feeling. Brad’s wife, Janelle, their children, Macey and Brjen, and other family members were present on Monday in the Council chambers. Brad will be missed.
Joe Rhein, of Bolton & Menk, informed the Council that there has been a lot of interest from contractors for the 2024 – 2025 street project. In light of this, Rhein asked the Council to extend the time allowed for contractors to submit their bids by two weeks. This will give prospective contractors time to more thoroughly study the project and prepare their bids, which in turn, will make the process competitive and more cost effective for the city. The Council approved Rhein’s recommendation.
Readers may be aware of the street work that had to be redone last year on 4th Avenue by Minnehaha School. A problem existed with the sewer and water main connection to the school and additional work was needed to correct it. Expense for this was shared by the contractor, the school district, Bolton & Menk and the City and resulted in a reduction of $ 11 , 0 5 2 . 0 1 from the construction contract.
St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth and Lake View Hospital here in Two Harbors have signed an affiliation agreement with Aspirus Health Care, out of Wausau Wisconsin. This affiliation is designed to expand rural access to health care and advance quality of care for residents of northeastern Minnesota. The Council approved the modification of bond documents recognizing this affiliation.
The Two Harbors Primary Presidential Nomination Election will be held on March 5th and the next Two Harbors Council meeting will be held on March 11th at 6:00.
