The trip includes advocacy with the MN Federal Delegation, U.S. Department of Energy Minerals Division, and National Labor Organizations
[SAINT PAUL, MN] — On February 8, 2024, Senator Grant Hauschild returned from a four-day trip to Washington D.C. advocating for the Northland with national stakeholders. The trip included visits to the U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Mineral Division, and several national labor organizations including the President of the United Steelworkers, David McCall; Legislative Director for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Jeff Soth; and Teamsters Legislative Director John Mataya.
The trip highlighted several important issues for Northern Minnesota, including congressionally directed spending for critical infrastructure in northern MN, permitting reform, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medicare reimbursement rate increase needs, among others.
Senator Hauschild said, “My job as a State Senator is to think beyond just the state level and be an advocate for our region wherever the fight takes us. While we can deliver as much as we can at the state level, the truth is that without Federal help, a lot of the issues we face will continue to be problems. My experience working in Washington D.C. gives me confidence in navigating the gridlock in Washington D.C. to push through on the issues most important to Northern Minnesota. I’m excited by the strong support I received for our region while in our nation’s capital.”
*Congressman Pete Stauber had to reschedule the in-person meeting with Senator Hauschild but communicated by phone.
