Handmade Toys Take & Create Art Kits

Mountain Iron, MN, November 14, 2023 – The Arrowhead Library System (ALS) will be providing Handmade Toy Take & Create Art Kits to member public libraries to distribute December 4-30.

This art experience, created by 321 Art Studio, explores toy making for beginners. Take & Create Art Kits will include supplies to create these four unique toys: yarn doll, string/button spinner, swing and catch cup and craft stick catapult. Follow-along instructional videos for each toy will be shared in the kit and online.

“We are looking forward to offering the Toy Kit to our patrons,” said Melody Dane, ALS Mail-A-Book Coordinator. “These kits will be welcomed by all ages since the old-fashioned, handmade toys will bring reminiscent pleasure to our senior citizens and a fun family activity to our youngsters.”

This program is geared towards those ages 6 and up, as younger kids may need assistance. Please note, each location has a limited number of kits.

“My youngest just turned six and I’m always looking for something to keep his hands busy,” said Leah Ryan, ALS Legacy Program Specialist. “Making toys is a fun activity we can learn together! Best of all, everything we’ll need is available for free, at our local library.”

Kits will be distributed at the following local public libraries and ALS outreach locations:

Duluth Public Library

Ely Public Library

Grand Marais Public Library

Silver Bay Public Library

Two Harbors Public Library

Arrowhead Library System Bookmobile

Arrowhead Library System Mail-A-Book (*patrons must qualify for Mail-A-Book services, kit may be modified in order to deliver by mail)

This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. To learn more about ALS Legacy Events, visit www.alslib.info or like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/alslibinfo.
