Minnesota’s firearms deer season runs from November 7 through November 22. During this time, several Minnesota state parks are conducting managed deer hunts to help maintain healthy deer populations and protect natural communities. When deer populations become too high, over browsing can damage native vegetation and negatively impact other wildlife.
Public access during managed hunts varies by park. Some parks remain fully open to visitors, while others have limited access or are closed to the general public, with entry restricted to hunters holding special permits.
Several state parks along the North Shore will host managed hunts during this period. Portions of these parks will remain open for visitors, while designated hunting areas will be temporarily closed to the public. Before visiting, check the park’s Visitor Alert or contact the park office for information about hunting locations, closures, and available visitor access.
North Shore State Parks with LIMITED access November 7th- November 22nd:
Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse, Tettegouche, Cascade River & Judge C.R. Magney State Parks.
Safety tips for those who will be visiting a state park during a hunt:
- Wear blaze orange or other brightly colored clothing, even if you will not be hunting.
- Check with the park office when you arrive, to see if there is any additional hunt-related information.
- Watch carefully for any hunt-related signage in the park, and follow it!
