Lake County Historical Society Announces Search for New Executive Director

LCHS seeks a new leader to guide its historic properties, preserve local heritage, and connect the community with Lake County’s history.

TWO HARBORS, Minn. — The Lake County Historical Society (LCHS) has begun its search for a new Executive Director following the departure of Ellen Lynch, who recently accepted the position of Executive Director at the Duluth Children’s Museum. Lynch served as Executive Director of the Lake County Historical Society for eight years, providing leadership for the organization and helping guide its programs, collections, and operations throughout her tenure. “Ellen has given eight years of dedicated service to the Lake County Historical Society, and we are grateful for the time, energy, and leadership she has brought to the organization,” said LCHS Board Chair Sam Gangi. “While we are sorry to see her leave, we are excited for Ellen as she begins this next chapter with the Duluth Children’s Museum. We thank her for her many contributions to the Historical Society and to Lake County and wish her continued success.” As the organization looks ahead, LCHS is seeking a new Executive Director who shares a passion for local history and is ready to help shape the future of the organization and its historic properties. Based in Two Harbors, the Lake County Historical Society preserves and shares the region’s heritage through three historic properties: the Duluth & Iron Range Depot Museum, the 3M Birthplace Museum, and the Two Harbors Light Station Museum and Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors to lead the organization’s operations and long-term development. Key responsibilities include fundraising, strategic planning, financial oversight, collections care, staff management, and building partnerships throughout the community.

This is an opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of preserving local history and wants to make a meaningful impact in the community. The successful candidate will help care for LCHS’s unique historic properties, strengthen community relationships, explore new ideas, and find creative ways to connect residents and visitors with the rich history of Lake County. The Board of Directors has begun the recruitment process and invites interested candidates to learn more about the position and submit an application.
