Increasing temperatures and daylight, a sure sign of the continued weather roller coaster in northern Minnesota. Despite the uncertainty, I (I mean “we” in our house) will start our annual process of cleaning, maintenance, and preparation for Spring and Summer. This week I bring you a bit of housekeeping, something new, and a quick review of a previously discussed topic.
Over the past seven-ish months, I have discussed recent changes significantly increasing benefits. CVSOs, including myself, can attest to the positive impact of these new benefits by the upturn of interactions with Veterans and their families. I am actively working with more than 130 Veterans or family members. What I really mean is they are waiting on me to assist them. Please be patient with your CVSO regardless of where you live. You may have to wait a day for a returned phone call, you may not be able to walk in and receive same-day service, or you may have to wait several weeks for an appointment. Do not be discouraged, your CVSO still wants to hear from you and assist you.
On a similar note, I would like to introduce everyone to a new technological break thru… the answering machine or what the kids call voicemail. Yes, I am being a bit sarcastic. However, I receive far too many missed calls without an associated voicemail or message. Please, please leave a message if your CVSO is unable to answer your call.
For those technology users, smart phones and tablets, be aware of unauthorized applications or “apps” targeting Veterans. Both American Legion and VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) are warning members about My Legion and My VFW apps. Neither of these Veterans Service Organizations have authorized nor endorsed these apps. It appears there are charges or service fees associated with these deceptive apps.
If you are a Veteran who served from 09/11/2001 to 08/30/2021, then you may be eligible for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) Post-9/11 Veteran Service Bonus. If you happen to know a Veteran that served during this period, then please pass along this information. The application process is open until June 30, 2024, or until funds have been exhausted.
